Day Five - Photo That Tells A Story

                                                                    Mistress of the headwaters

This is a bronze sculpture that sits approximately 800 feet from the headwaters of the Mississippi River in Itasca State Park. She is called - Heart Water, Caretaker Woman. According to the plaque that was next to her she is based on an Ojibwe belief that women are the caretakers of the water. The turtles she is releasing represent the renewing of the seasons and the continuing waters of life.

I thought she was very interesting and I liked the story that inspired her. I just took this photo on Tuesday - I had to attend a meeting for work and it just happened to be at the Itasca State Park. It was the first time I had been there. My boss made sure that after the meeting I had time to go through the park and see the headwaters of the Mississippi River (I think I'm going to put that photo up tomorrow).
